About Emma

Emma Wright

Emma Wright began her professional art career in 2003 when she took up painting having had an unrewarding career in the graphic design industry. The satisfaction of painting surprised and delighted her so much she booked her first exhibition following the completion of her first half dozen paintings.

Since then, Emma has had solo exhibitions in Wellington, Queenstown and Auckland and is represented by galleries around the country.  She has work in corporate and private collections in New Zealand and abroad and paints full-time from her Wellington studio.
Following a trip to the UK in 2004 Emma has been invited to exhibit at the New Zealand High Commission in London in Oct 2005.

How people relate to their boundaries (both in terms of physical environments and psychological barriers) is the theme that underpins most of Emma’s work. Using rich colours and textures that reflect the unevenness of life, she explores this theme with symbols and icons that end outside the canvas and poems that call people to extend themselves.
